The Facility...
Salt Lake ATCT and TRACON in winter.
Salt Lake City TRACON (S56), is located in the scenic Salt Lake Valley, and on Salt Lake City International Airport. We are an ATC10 Terminal Radar Approach Control, and are co-located with Salt Lake City ATCT (SLC), which is an ATC10 Air Traffic Control Tower. We are a group of roughly 50 Air Traffic Controllers whose main purpose is to provide Radar ATC to the Salt Lake City area. Our airspace runs from Brigham City to Provo, surface to 23,000 feet, and roughly 40 miles wide.
The area...
Utah was settled by LDS pioneers in 1847, and now is a thriving community of over 2 million people. Most of Utah's inhabitants live in Davis, Utah, and Salt Lake counties. There are basically three large metropolitan areas: Salt Lake City and its suburbs, Provo and surrounding towns, and the Ogden area. We enjoy access to a large variety of outdoor recreation, as well as all the trappings of modern city life, all set to the backdrop of 10,000' mountain peaks. Salt Lake itself sits in the North end of a large valley, with mountains on both sides. The scenery, activity, and low cost of living make it a nice place to live.
